Carpet Exports to US to Resume Early 2016

Hand-woven carpet exports to the United States will resume from early 2016, announced the head of Iran National Carpet Center, Hamid Kargar. The official added that talks are underway to invite American traders, carpet experts and journalists to visit Iran and the country’s hand-woven carpet production facilities to get a firsthand glimpse of the quality of products and promote its trade and exports, Mehr News Agency reported. As part of intensified US sanctions against Iran, a ban was placed on Iranian carpet in 2010. Before that, the US was the primary destination for Iranian exports with more than $82 million worth of imports every year accounting for 16.5% of Iran’s total annual carpet exports. As part of the July nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, sanctions against Iran, including the US ban on Iranian carpet, are going to be lifted.
