Apple production is expected to reach 305 million tons and exports are estimated at 500,000 tons by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2016), according to the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad. There are currently 334,000 hectares of apple orchards across the country with the average annual yield of 17 tons per hectare. Last year’s average export price for each kilogram of apples was $0.6. This is expected to rise this year as global demand for the fruit is on the rise, the Persian daily Forsat-e Emrooz reported.
