More than 11.5 million tons of goods worth $15.7 billion were imported from Asian countries such as China, the UAE, South Korea, Turkey and India during the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 21), accounting for 75.7% of the overall value of imports. The figures indicate a 14% decrease in terms of volume and 22% decrease in value compared to the same period of last year, the Persian daily Forsat-e Emrooz reported. Furthermore, according to statistics by Islamic Republic of Iran’s Customs Administration, about 5.1 million tons of goods worth $4.6 billion were imported from Europe during the same period, showing a 13.7% and 12% drop in volume and value respectively compared to last year’s corresponding period. European imports accounted for 22.1% of the value of imports. Imports from Americas, Africa and Oceania accounted for an aggregate of only 2.18% of Iran’s total imports. A total of $20.8 billion worth of goods was imported during the six-month period, indicating a 20.43% decrease.
