The first biennial Exhibition of Iranian Packaging Designers opened in Tehran on Friday to forge constructive ties between producers and package designers.

“Newcomers in the packaging industry and producers will get familiar with the works of top Iranian package designers during the exhibition. The 11-day event will also give freelance designers a golden opportunity to put their works on display,” the Persian daily Forsat-e Emrooz quoted the organizer of the exhibition, Iman Alemozafar, as saying at a press conference before the opening of the exhibition.

Packaging is the technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale and use. Packaging industry includes the process of design, evaluation and production of packages. The industry can be described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use.

Iran’s packaging industry has undergone huge developments in recent years. Despite the fact that at times domestic packages are carbon copies of foreign products, there are many designers who create novel works based on Iranian taste and preferences. Unfortunately, their works have mostly gone unnoticed by producers.

“Members of the jury will review all works from the perspective of customers, therefore designers need to aim for packages that would help the product sell,” Alemozafar said.

Amrollah Farhadi, a member of the exhibition’s team of consultants, said many producers do not give importance to creative designs and the expo intends to remind business owners of the potential and capabilities of young designers.

“Iranian designers have a better understanding of production and consumer market of their own country compared to foreigners. They are capable of designing an effective marketing strategy for the producer,” he said.

The exhibition will run until October 19.
