Saffron production in the current crop year is expected to reach 300 tons, which would indicate a 43% increase compared to last year, says Ali Hosseini, a member of National Saffron Council. The official attributed the expected rise in production to ample rainfalls in late summer, Mehr News Agency reported. Earlier, farmers had voiced concern that saffron production could register a sharp fall this year amid severe heat-waves striking northeastern regions of the country. South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi provinces account for the lion’s share of saffron production in Iran.
