Orange is the most smuggled fruit in the market, according to the head of Fruit and Vegetable Sellers Union, Hossein Mohajeran. “Most of the contraband come from Egypt; some of it are also smuggled from Turkey,” ISNA quoted the official as saying on Monday. Chinese pears, Chilean pomegranates and French apples are also among smuggled fruit that, according to Mohajeran, mostly enter the country from southeastern borders in Sistan-Baluchestan Province. They make their way to central regions such as Fars Province and are then transported to warehouses in Tehran’s suburbs.
