Iran Civil Aviation Organization has not received any request from Iranian airlines for purchase of Russia-made Sukhoi Super Jet-100 aircraft, IRNA quoted CAO head, Ali Abedzadeh, as saying on Saturday. His comment came after Russian news agency Sputnik repeatedly claimed that Iran is eying acquisition of the controversial aircraft. Many Iranian experts have called into question the safety of the Russian-made middle-range 100-seat-capacity passenger plane, saying there are far better options for Iran, which is planning to rejuvenate its aging air fleet after years of sanctions imposed by the West over the country’s nuclear energy program. Iran and major world powers reached a nuclear accord on July 14, as part of which sanctions are soon to be lifted.
