About 11.5 million tons of wheat were harvested during the first six months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), 70% of which were purchased by the government, announced advisor to the minister of agriculture, Esmaeil Esfandiari. The official named Golestan, Fars and Kurdistan provinces as Iran’s main wheat producers and said 120,000 hectares of land are currently under wheat cultivation. The new harvest season started on September 16, IRNA reported.
