About 10,000 tons of mushrooms were exported to Iraq during the first three months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), said the chairman of Mushroom Producers Association of Iran, Mohammad Hassan Afshar, adding that more than 8,000 tons of mushrooms will be exported to the neighboring country in addition to Persian Gulf littoral states each month during the second half of the year. The official said global mushroom prices currently stand at around $5 per kg, which considering the inflation rate and the prime cost of the commodity, its exports render close to zero profitability. However, “in order to keep our overseas markets, exports have to continue,” Forsat-e-Emrooz daily quoted Afshar as saying.
