Iran will provide incentives in Chabahar for Afghan traders who use the port as a trade pathway, said governor general of Sistan-Baluchestan Province, Ali Osat Hashemi. The incentives include 50% reduction in tariffs and storage costs as well as more than 30% discount on fuel prices, IRNA quoted the official as saying on Wednesday in a meeting with traders in Afghanistan’s Nimruz Province, which shares a long border with Sistan-Baluchestan. The official also announced agreements with Afghans on the construction of a railroad connecting Chabahar to Nimruz capital city of Zaranj in the near future. Iran annually exports $2.5 billion worth of petrochemicals, foodstuffs, construction materials and technical and engineering services to Afghanistan.
