About 190,000 tons of pistachios will be produced by the end of the current Iranian year (stared March 21, 2015), announced head of Dried Fruits and Nuts Association of Iran.
Mostafa Ahmadi added that close to 180,000 tons of pistachios were produced last year, about 110,000 tons of which were exported. He called on the government to help pistachio producers reduce their production costs so that exports can be boosted.
Iran is the world’s largest pistachio producer. China is the biggest customer accounting for 50% of Iran’s exports. Neighboring countries and the European Union are other major export destinations.
