The production of raisins is facing a surplus, said head of Nuts and Dry Fruit Union, Mostafa Ahmadi, blaming the glut on low domestic consumption of the dried fruit.  “In general, raisins are less popular among Iranians compared to other dried fruits and nuts. For example, domestic consumption of raisins is a quarter of almonds,” Eghtesad News quoted the official as saying on Monday. Every year, around 640,000 tons of grapes are converted to raisins and consumed domestically or exported. Iran is among the top ten producers of raisins in the world.
