More than 750,000 tons of pomegranates are expected to be produced this Iranian year (started March 21), says head of the National Union of Agricultural Products Reza Nourani. He added that last year Iran was the second largest pomegranate producer in the world, closely following the United States. Earlier, deputy manager of Fruit Exporters and Importers’ Union, Sadreddin Niavarani said exports of pomegranates will resume as of late September after a seven-year hiatus as a result of prolonged cold snaps and dry spells. According to Nourani, Iran can easily win the title of the world’s biggest pomegranate producer this year.
