Sarakhs Transit Up 170%

Transit goods constitute 420,000 tons of the total 820,000 tons of commodities which crossed Sarakhs rail border (northeast of Iran on Turkmenistan border) during the first five months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), said the general manager of Khorasan Razavi Railroad Organization, adding that the figure registers a 170% rise compared to the same period last year. Sarakhs-Bandar Abbas railroad alone accounts for 98% of country’s transit capacity, Mohammadhadi Ziyaee noted. Fertilizer, sulfur, cotton, fuel and petrochemicals comprised the majority of transit goods, which were mostly loaded in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan accounting for 44% and 51% of the total respectively.
