As a favorable location on a main regional trade route, Chabahar Port has a lot to offer for private sector investors from India and other countries in the region, Harsh Mishra, director of the Indian Commercial Group told IRNA yesterday. Mishra said infrastructure projects are underway in the southern Iranian port to build a petrochemical refinery and connect its railway to the national and regional networks. The government of new Indian primeminister Narendra Modi has stepped up efforts to develop Chabahar, in the face of direct Chinese competition in the guise of the Pakistani port of Gwadar. New Delhi has earmarked $100 million for the upgrade of Chabahar Port so as to improve trade with Tehran, Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries.
