New mineral explorations have found Sangan Mine’s iron ore reserves to be at 1.2 billion tons, which make it a “world-class” iron ore mine, said the head of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization. “As Iran’s largest open-pit mine, Sangan is highly attractive to investors due to low extraction costs,” Foolad News quoted Mahdi Karbasian as saying. The deputy minister earlier said that the mine has the capacity to produce 15 million tons of iron ore pellets and 17.5 million tons of concentrate annually. Sangan iron ore mine is located in Khaf County in Khorasan Razavi Province about 300 kilometers south east of Mashhad.
