Iran will not import wheat this [Iranian] year (2015/16) for the first time in about a decade thanks to a bumper crop, said deputy minister of agriculture Ali Ghanbari. In its latest report on Iran’s agribusiness sector, the Business Monitor International forecast Iran’s wheat production to increase at an average rate of 6.1% to 15 million tons by the Iranian year 2018/19, owing to modernization of technology, including hardier grains variants, greater access to relevant inputs and a larger area of the country benefiting from new irrigation facilities.
