More than 18,000 tons of seafood worth about $60 million were exported in the first four months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), indicating an 18% increase in terms of weight and 10% increase in value compared to the similar period last year, says the head of Iran’s Fisheries Organization, Hassan Salehi, adding that carp, larghead hairtail, trout and sturgeon were the main exports. The official, who is also a deputy agriculture minister, also noted that fish exports increased by 2%, shrimp exports by 100% and caviar exports by 200% in the four-month period compared to last year’s corresponding period, ISNA reported.
