The 8th meeting of Iran-Austria joint commission on economic cooperation is due to be held in Tehran on September 7-9, coinciding with Austrian President Heinz Fischer’s visit to Iran.
Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday that prior to the meeting, Austrian officials from the Ministry of Science, Research and Economy and the Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology are scheduled to hold a preliminary meeting in Tehran August 18-19.
Austria, a neutral European Union member, was for centuries a bridgehead for Iran to Europe. Vienna is also home to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and played a positive role in nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers which led to a historic agreement in mid July. The deal will remove Iran’s economic sanctions in exchange for limitations on Tehran’s nuclear program.
Back in July, Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and Trade Promotion Organization held a conference in Vienna on trade and investment opportunities in Iran. During the conference Iran’s Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammadreza Nematzadeh invited European traders and investors to tap investment opportunities in Iran.
