CEO of Iranian Tobacco Company, Mohammad Hossein Barkhordar, says the company is planning to put price labels on cigarette packets. The plan is in line with a corresponding legislation passed by Consumers and Manufacturers Protection Organization, affiliated with the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade, which requires retailers to sell their products at set prices. Based on statistics released by Iran’s Customs Administration, Iranians smoke 60 billion cigarettes per year. Some 28.7 billion cigarettes were produced in Iran over the past Iranian year (ended March 20).
