In a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev on Tuesday, President Hassan Rouhani said Iran’s neighbors, including Azerbaijan, have priority over other states when it comes to investment in Iran. “Tehran and Baku have considerable potential for cooperation in many fields,” IRNA quoted the president as saying. Referring to role of the North-South Corridor in strengthening the relations between the two countries, Rouhani said Azerbaijan can link Iran to the Caucasus region. Iran can also be the neighboring country’s gateway to the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman and the rest of the world, he added. “Joint investment in Caspian Sea energy would be a good starting point for further investment in oil and gas sectors,” Rouhani noted. Mustafayev for his part congratulated the president on the nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers and said the Vienna accord will make the region a safer place and will bring about great achievements for its nations. “Azerbaijan seeks to expand relations with Iran in different sectors including energy, trade, transport, industry, agriculture, oil, gas and banking,” he said.
