In a meeting with head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Mohsen Jalalpour, Thailand’s Ambassador to Iran Rasmee Chittham expressed his country’s willingness to boost trade ties with Iran. According to the envoy, foodstuffs, agricultural produce and textiles are the strong suits of Thailand’s economy while Iran’s potential in heavy industries such as oil, gas and car making can set the stage for enhanced mutual ties, Eghtesad News reported. Jalalpour for his part referred to the unimpressive trade exchange between Tehran and Bangkok and said the commerce chambers of the two countries need to be more active. “Given the rich resources of Iran’s copper and Thailand’s annual imports of $60 billion of copper, we are willing to boost cooperation in this regard. Also, we can promote cooperation in the oil and plastic sectors,” he noted. Bangkok is to host a seminar on introducing trade opportunities in Iran in late-August and a high-ranking economic and political delegation is scheduled to visit Iran on December 15 and 16, the Thai diplomat announced.
