Economic and social mismanagement has increased the number of people living in cities in the past decade, the deputy minister of roads and urban development said, IRIB reported. Four decades ago, only 30 percent of Iranians lived in cities and 70 percent in rural areas; however, currently, 72 percent live in urban areas and 28 percent reside in rural areas, Seyed Mohammad Pejman said. The official also highlighted that presently, over 10 million people live in ageing and dilapidated structures.
