Iran’s ambassador to the Republic of Georgia said his country is interested in investing in the Caucuses region. Abbas Talebifar said he met with Tbilisi mayor Davit Narmania to discuss cultural and economic ties between the two countries. The meeting, he said, touched on the future prospects of cooperation between Tehran and Tbilisi. Talebifar reiterated Iran’s position that is aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation and make it easier for Iranians to invest in Georgia, adding that Iranian real estate developers have a special interest in the reconstruction of dilapidated buildings in Tbilisi. Talebifar added that discussions between him and the mayor also involved plans to build an Iranian cultural center in the Georgian capital. The Tbilisi mayor expressed willingness to cooperate and said he was ready to visit Tehran on the back of an offer from his Tehran counterpart Mohammad Qalibaf. The visit, whenever agreed, may play host to a number of other top Georgian government officials including the speaker of the Georgian parliament.
