Deputy finance minister Ali Asgari is scheduled to visit Cyprus on August 4, at the invitation of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cyprus News Agency reported. CCCI has hailed the visit as a significant development in Iran-Cyprus ties, given the recent agreement on Iran’s nuclear program that will see the end of economic sanctions against the country. Asgari is also expected to meet with Cypriot Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades and Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lakkotrypis. Director general of Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Marios Tsiakkis, says in the framework of the visit the two countries will sign bilateral agreements and a Cypriot-Iranian Business Association will be established. According to Tsiakkis, some 35 Cypriot companies have expressed interest in participating in the association. He added that CCCI will promote Cyprus as a base for Iranian companies to do business with the EU and other countries in the region, as well as a destination for Iranian tourists.
