Early August will see the berth of the first French container ship in Iran’s largest and most advanced container port, Shahid Rajaei Port, announced the general manager of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Department.

“France’s CMA CGM Group is the third largest container company in the world. Its 363-meter Andromeda with a draft of 15.5 meters can carry 11,500 TEUs,” Mehr News Agency quoted Ebrahim Idani as saying.

The development comes as a result of the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the permanent members of the United Nation Security Council – the US, Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany – which has opened new avenues for international cooperation, he noted.

The managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines believes that the next four to six months will not bear witness to a dramatic turn of events in the movements of Iranian ships to and from the European ports since the process of complete removal of sanctions would take time.

“Hopefully once the nuclear accord comes into effect, Iranian ships would be free to call on European ports and this would consequently lead to a reduction of costs and Iranian commodities’ end-price for that matter,” Eghtesad News quoted Mohammadhossein Dajmar as saying. “Until then it would be business as usual in IRISL,” he said.
