About 11,200 tons of tea worth $52 million were imported in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started march 21) mainly from India, Sri Lanka, China, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, indicating a 14% increase in terms of weight and 8% increase in value compared to the same period last year, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration. Meanwhile, about 5,000 tons of tea worth $7.6 million was exported in the same three-month period. Turkey was the main destination having imported more than 3000 tons of Iranian tea, ISNA reported. Other export destinations for Iranian tea included Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Kuwait and Russia.
