Mohammad Khodakarami has been appointed as the head of the Civil Aviation Organization by the Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi. Khodakarami, who has been serving as deputy director of CAO’s Aviation Operations Department, replaces Alireza Jahangirian after the former’s abrupt resignation, IRNA reported. Jahangiri’s resignation reportedly came after the parliament sought to impeach Akhoundi over last year’s crash of an Iran-140 Sepahan Air jetliner in the vicinity of Iran’s Mehrabad Airport in Tehran. The PhD holder led the CAO for nearly 21 months. Policymaking and planning for the civil air transport, supervision over the safety of air travel and performance of airports and airlines, training of aviation personnel and drafting international agreements are among CAO responsibilities.
