According to the latest figures released by the Statistical Center of Iran, the unemployment rate in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started March 21) showed an 11.5% decrease compared with the previous quarter to reach 10.8%. The new data also shows nine percent of men and 19.2% of women were jobless whereas 12% of them were residents of urban areas and 7.6% lived in rural areas. The SCI put the total number of the country’s unemployed population at about 2.6 million. Moreover, an unemployment rate of 25% was recorded for the youth aged between 15 to 29 years, IRNA reported.
