Subpar smuggled products, particularly those from China, constitute 70% of the personal hygiene and cosmetic market, said the head of the Association of Cosmetics, Toiletries and Perfumery Importers. “Evading the 26% import tariff on cosmetics tempts many into smuggling of these products,” ISNA quoted Mohammadreza Boutorabi as saying. Most contraband beauty products are brought into the country through the UAE and Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan.
