Workers Seek Parliament Help

Iranian workers have decided to ask the parliament to oblige their employers to deposit wages and benefits into their bank accounts after the Supreme Labor Council and the ministry of cooperatives, labor, and social welfare failed to do so. The call is interpreted as a measure to stop easy layoffs and increase job security, as many workers are employed through blank or temporary labor contracts. Workers’ representatives say if the wages are deposited into bank accounts, the employers, especially in smaller firms and workshops, would not be able to escape their commitments to workers regarding their legal rights. Based on a blank contract, the workers have no legal rights to seek compensation.
