In a meeting with the Armenian Ambassador to Iran Artashes Tumanyan, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia called for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

“Despite good political ties between Tehran and Yerevan, economic and trade relations have yet to be fully exploited,” Tayyebnia said at the meeting held at the ministry on Thursday, IRNA reported.

“Iranian companies enjoy great capacities in terms of technical and engineering services, and are ready to carry out projects in Armenia.”

Referring to the ongoing talks between Iran and the P5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) over Iran’s nuclear energy program, Tumanyan said, “A potential agreement could introduce new possibilities to Armenia given the state’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union.”

The ambassador described access to the great Eurasian market through Armenia as a great opportunity for Iranian traders and businessmen.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to take any action to remove barriers to bilateral trade through talks and negotiations,” Tayyebnia noted.
