Scientists at the National Research Center of Saline Water Aquatics in Yazd Province have managed to harvest farmed caviar in the heart of desert in Bafq County, IRNA reported. The research center, which is affiliated to the Iranian Fisheries Research Organization, has been active in projects of physiology, farming and fertilizing sturgeons since 2002. About 800 kilograms of caviar, worth $1.2 million, were exported during the last Iranian year (ended March 20). The main export destinations are Spain and France, and Russia will join them this year.
