The government will allocate 600 billion rials (more than $20 million at official exchange rate) for sampling and supervising the quality of domestically-produced commodities in the market, said the deputy head of Iran National Standards Organization, Fereydun Bolghari. Noting that nationwide supervision over goods is crucial, and indispensible responsibility of his organization, the official said: “Low-quality items are doomed to be recalled and destroyed. They will land their producers in the court to boot.” The INSO’s quality control is only carried out over goods imported through official customs terminals, however sub-par items flood the country via unofficial ports of entry or in the form of suitcase trade, he added.
