Since the acquisition of new aircraft by Iranian airline companies in recent months, the capacity of the country’s civil air fleet has expanded by 20 percent, IRNA quoted head of Civil Aviation Organization, Alireza Jahangirian, as saying on Sunday. The official, however, said in order for the air fleet to keep up with international standards, 40,000 more passenger seats are needed. Recently, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi said since March, 17 new commercial airplanes have been purchased and delivered to the country. He added that new airplanes will join the commercial air fleet soon after they receive the required permits from CAO.
