The construction of two new terminals in Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) over the next three years is expected to increase the annual passenger handling capacity to 30 million from the current 5 million, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi said on Saturday, IRNA reported. The construction of a terminal to handle Iranian pilgrims is expected to be completed within 14 months, while another 200,000-square-meter terminal with a capacity of 20 million passengers is expected to become operational within the next three years.  Highlighting the important role of airports in developing the tourism sector, the minister said expanding the country’s airports is in line with the government’s plans to increase its revenues from air transport and boost the inflow of foreign tourists.
