It is estimated that about 11 million tons of wheat will be produced by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2016), an advisor to agriculture minister, Esmaeil Esfandiar-Pour, said on Tuesday, as reported by IRNA. The official noted that the country’s area under wheat cultivation has reached 200 hectares in the current crop year, adding that harvest has already started in 18 provinces. He also revealed that the ministry plans to purchase seven million tons of domestic wheat. “The agriculture ministry seeks complete self-sufficiency in wheat production,” he said.
