Due to low tariffs on starch and glucose imports, these products have recently been imported from China, consequently damaging their domestic production, ISNA quoted head of Starch and Glucose Society of Iran, Mohammad Rasoul Masaebi, as saying on Sunday. Iran’s starch consumption can easily be supplied domestically, said the official, adding that recent imports have disturbed the market, causing a few active firms to shut down. About 450,000 tons of glucose and starch were domestically produced during the past Iranian year (ended March 20), 10 percent of which were exported to several Asian countries.
