The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) reported a 12.9% increase in the producer price index (PPI) in the 12-month period ending May 21, which marks the end of the second Iranian month Ordibehesht, compared to the same period of last year. The figure indicates a 6% increase compared with the similar month of the previous year.

The PPI index (using 2011 as the base year) stood at 211.1 during the month, indicating 1% growth compared with the previous month, Mehr News Agency reported on Sunday.

A closer look at the PPI sub-indexes shows that they recorded an increase compared with the previous month, but the ‘agriculture, forestry and fishing’ sub-index dropped by 1.7% compared with a month earlier and the ‘transportation’ sub-index remained unchanged.

The report shows a 6% increase in the ‘agriculture, forestry and fishing’ sub-index compared with the similar month of previous year. The ‘construction’ and ‘services’ sectors also increased by 1.8% and 12.6% respectively.

Earlier on May 26, CBI announced a 15.5% increase in the goods and services consumer price index for urban areas (CPI-U) in the 12-month period ending May 21, indicating a 16.2% increase compared with the similar period of a year ago.

According to the report, the CPI index (using 2011 as the base year) stood at 211.8 during the month, indicating a 1% growth compared with the previous month.
