Close to $2.4 billion worth of various commodities were exported to Afghanistan during the past Iranian year (ended March 20), managing director of Export Guarantee Fund of Iran (EGFI), Taher Shah Hamed, was quoted by IRNA as saying. Addressing an official meeting in Birjand, the capital of the eastern province of South Khorasan, he said the province could play an important role in exports to Afghanistan, enjoying 460 kilometers of shared border with the neighboring country.  Oil products, cement, construction material, carpets, home appliances, and detergents are some of the main products exported to Afghanistan, while nuts, carpets, agricultural products as well as handicrafts are imported from Afghanistan.
