The market is awash with adulterated honey, some even produced without any bees involved, said the CEO of the National Union of Beekeepers in an interview with ISNA, blaming the relaxation of regulations since two years ago for the substandard products. “A number of new brands enter the market on a weekly basis due to lack of supervision over the honey market,” said Effat Raeisi Sarhadi. Nearly 5,000 tons of honey, valued at $28 million, were exported during the past Iranian year (ended March 20).
