Turkish Ties

Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province plays a crucial role in consolidating trade ties between Tehran and Ankara, said Turkey’s ambassador to Iran Reza Tekin Hakan, calling for closer relations with the neighboring province in various areas including tourism, commerce and cultural exchanges, Mehr news agency reported. He made the remarks in a meeting with West Azerbaijan’s governor general Ghorbanali Sa’adat on Tuesday. The Iranian official, for his part, called the establishment of common border markets in a bid to create job opportunities for people living in border areas. West Azerbaijan is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It is in the northwest of the country, bordering Turkey, Iraq and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and the Iranian provinces of East Azerbaijan, Zanjan and Kurdistan.
