President Hassan Rouhani has called for a national movement to opt for domestic products instead of foreign brands. “One of the government’s major responsibilities is to support domestic goods and manufacturers,” he was quoted by IRNA as saying, noting that to achieve the objective the government has tasked the ministry of industry, mine, trade to come up with a list of Iranian products with their foreign counterparts and subsequently ban the import of the latter. The president’s remarks come a few days after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called for supporting domestic production, saying: “The key to solving economic problems should not be sought in Lausanne, Geneva or New York. In order to solve the economic problems, attention should be focused on domestic production.”
