Although the removal of western sanctions can open new vistas for Iran to engage with the international community, one should not expect that all the problems the economy has been grappling with will evaporate once the sanctions are lifted, according to head of Iran’s chamber of commerce, mine, industry and agriculture (ICCMIA) Gholam Hossein Shafeie. He said countries in both the western and eastern hemisphere are vying to secure a position in the Iranian market, urging the authorities to make use of the competition in favor of the national interests. Criticizing what he called “excessive business regulations”, he said the business environment must improve in order to facilitate investment and reduce business costs, IRNA reported.
