Nomads account for 25 percent of the country’s overall red meat production, deputy head of Nomadic Affairs Organization, Mir-Vali Safarzadeh, announced on Saturday, as reported by ISNA. Some 5.7 million metric tons of goods, valued at $1.8 billion, were produced by nomads in the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), 184,000 tons of which was red meat, the official noted, anticipating that the figure will reach 200,000 tons this year. Last year, the government allocated about $47.5 million worth of loans to nomads for red meat production from Iran’s National Development Fund. The loans will be granted by the end of May, according to Safarzadeh.
