Plan to Up Food Exports to $3b

Food exports are set to increase to $3 billion in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21), according to the director general of health ministry’s food, medicine and health office.  Sadegh Niaraki noted that, 1.4 million metric tons of foodstuff, valued at $2.3 billion, were exported in the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), which indicates a 16 percent rise in terms of weight and 10 percent increase in value compared to a year before. Dairy products and ice cream with a total value of $642 million accounted for the majority of the exports last year. Pastry and chocolate worth $543 million and saffron with the value of $226 million come second and third respectively.
