Speaking during a ceremony to mark the National Labor Week on Tuesday, President Hassan Rouhani called for a shift from oil-dominated economy toward Resistance Economy. “We must be able to stand on our own feet,” he added. Resistance Economy refers to a set of guidelines proposed by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei to counter sanctions, promote domestic growth and reduce reliance on oil revenues. Heralding a complete removal of western sanctions against Iran – imposed over its nuclear energy program – the president also said on Tuesday that those who have been making profit from years of economic sanctions “would better look for another job.” “We will continue our constructive engagement with the world under the aegis of the Leader, and no one in the world can continue putting pressure on our country,” he remarked. He said Iran is trying to prove to the world that ill-wishers have lied about Iran’s nuclear program, which is in fact entirely peaceful.
