Nearly 170 metric tons of saffron was exported during the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), deputy head of the National Council of Saffron, Gholamreza Miri said on Monday. “Khorasan Razavi Province accounts for 90% of total saffron exports. Around 148.6 tons of the product, valued at $213 million, was exported from the province alone, which indicates a 27% rise compared with a year before,” he was quoted by Fars news agency as saying. Noting that saffron prices vary depending on the type and quality, he added that every kilogram of premium saffron is sold around 54 million rials (around $1,600 based on market rates).
