Iran is reported to have been Tajikistan’s fifth biggest trade partner after Switzerland, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan during the first quarter of 2015; IRNA reported, citing the latest statistics released by the Statistical Agency under the president of the Republic of Tajikistan. Nearly 150 Iranian companies are said to be working in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy. The Istiqlol tunnel is among the major projects in Tajikistan run by Iranian companies. The five-kilometer-long tunnel connects the Tajik capital Dushanbe to the country’s second largest city, Khujand.
