Women’s participation in the economy increased by 0.1% in the third quarter of the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20) compared with the previous quarter, an official from the ministry of cooperatives, labor and social affairs told IRNA. As economic participation rate is a measure of the active portion of an economy’s labor force, it is inversely related with unemployment rate, counselor for women and family affairs, Vahideh Negin explained. Average economic participation by the population aged 10 years and above was estimated at 37.3% during the third quarter. The rate was 62.9% for men and 11.8% for women.
